Dance

Kara is, and always will, be a dancer.

Her teaching career began at sixteen assisting Baby Ballet classes. By the age of eighteen, she was teaching four classes a week at her dance studio in addition to an afterschool class in a local elementary school. Early on, her love of teaching dance has led her to both conventional and unconventional settings.

Thirty years of leotards and tights later…Kara is still teaching! From college dance conservatories to her signature Toddler Dance Jam, she’s as comfortable dancing in a state of the art dance studio as an outdoor farmer’s market. From strict technique, to deep somatic work, to BrainDance—Kara’s lifeblood is to move with others.

CHOREOGRAPHY

Kara choreographed her first piece, Homeless, at the age of eleven. As a young choreographer her teachers encouraged her to create her own movement style, which she continues to explore to this day.

Her company independentdancemaker | Kara Tatelbaum was created in 2000. Kara continues to choreograph new work—most recently on Zoom!
